Concert Spotlight: The Burns Sisters, Friday, August 24th
One of the region's most beloved bands, and a personal favorite of mine, takes the stage at the Night Eagle Cafe in Binghamton tonight!
The Burns Sisters is made of up three sisters – Annie, Marie, and Jeannie – who have been singing together
all their lives. They have eight albums together, along with various solo projects, and have spent recent years touring with Arlo Guthrie on the “Arlo Guthrie and Friends Ridin’ on the City of New Orleans – Bringing Back the Music – Benefitting Victims of Katrina” tour (now, that’s a mouthful!).
Their music appeals to a lot of people, with their combination of beautiful harmonies, feisty blues-rock and down-home folk. With ties to the central NY area (they grew up in Binghamton and now make their home in Ithaca), they grew up in a family culture that believes in standing up for the rights of all people, and their latest CD, Wild Bouquet, reflects both the personal and global worlds around them. Wild Bouquet also features two of Woody Guthrie’s songs – “Vigilante Man” and “God’s Promise.”
You can catch the Burns Sisters tonight at the Night Eagle Café at its new location at 200 State Street, Binghamton. For tickets or more information, visit the Night Eagle Cafe's website or call 607-217-7334.
